Keukenhof - Botanical Garden of The Tulip Time Festival in The Netherlands

One of the reasons I booked myself a trip to Amsterdam in the spring was specifically to see Tulip Time at Keukenhof. After having read up about the festival, I had always had an interest in seeing it in person. And let me tell you - it was even more beautiful than I had imagine in person!

Located about a half hour outside of Amsterdam in Lisse, Keukenhof is a very easy day-trip away from the canal-filled city. You can either take a train or a bus to the gardens. An alternate name for this floral paradise is Garden of Europe, and rightly so. There are flowers everywhere you look! Most of the flowers are grown on a plot nearby and are artfully arranged around the park for the pleasure of viewers who come from all corners of globe to see the sight in person.

The park is only open from mid-March to mid-May. Many people suggest visiting in April, and so that is when I took my trip there. As you can tell, many different varieties of flowers were in bloom!

There are also multiple types of gardens inside Keukenhof, such as a beautifully designed English garden, or a traditional Japanese-styled country.

And now, AN ABUNDANCE OF FLOWERS:

Of course, there was also a large windmill on display in the middle of the fields. You can actually go up inside the building, which offers you a great panoramic view of the park.

There were also nice “modern” 50s style art installations featuring floral arrangements. How fun!

Here’s a fascinating photo of the fields in which they grow the flowers to transport to Keukenhof:

As you can see from the amount of photos I felt compelled to take, this is definitely an attraction I thoroughly enjoyed. I was not let down by the attraction I had wanted to visit for so many years. Keukenhof is worth a trip during your séjour to Amsterdam (if you’re visiting in the Spring), and it’s worth giving yourself an entire morning or afternoon to just peruse each floral attraction at your own leisurely pace.
