Top 10 Hygge Cafés, Shops & Spots in Copenhagen
As the Danish will tell you, “Hygge” is a way of life. Here are a list of 10 cafés, shops, and areas to go that will help you as a tourist to attempt to achieve those comfortable and cozy vibes.
1. THE LIVING ROOM
The first café I visited in Copenhagen, The Living Room definitely helped calm me down after a sort of hectic plane ride (it’s a long story…). Chock full of healthy bites and various type of coffee, the real charm of this café is the decorations present on each of its 3 floors! Need proof? Check out the ceramic deer head mounted on the wall in the photo to the right!
2. Wasteland (VINTAGE SHOP)
Looking for that perfectly cozy sweater at half the price? Head to Wastleland, a wonderful little vintage shop just a short walk away from The Living Room. Once you’ve bought that perfect sweater, there’s a whole slew of unique finds in this delightful Danish store.
3. Oerstedsparken
Hygge isn’t just extended to coffee shops and cozy sweaters; achieve those “cozy” vibes while munching on goats cheese and crackers and sipping wine with friends in one of Copenhagen’s many parks. One of my favourites? Oerstedsparken, located near Nørreport subway stop!
4. Torvehallerne (FOOD HALL)
In lieu of going out every night to a fancy restaurant, go out for a comfortable meal by yourself or with friends at Torvehallerne. Options abound for any diner, café-hopper, or cook, regardless of dietary restrictions. Top picks? The healthy breakfasts at Grød, and Laura’s Bakery for some cinnamon rolls (not gluten-free).
5. COFFEE COLLECTIVE
If you’re a coffee aficionado, Coffee Collective is the place to visit. Inside a well-decorated café with potted plants and cacti, sip on an ethically sourced cup that does as much good for the coffee industry as it does for your taste buds!
6. KAKTUS KOBENHAVN
Do you like cacti? Do you like pottery? Do you like minimalism? Help achieve ultimate “hygge” at home with one of the offerings from this cool and hip shop in Nørrebro.
7. STROMMA Copenhagen Canal Tour
Get comfortable taking a leisurely boat ride along the many canals that make up the beautiful city of Copenhagen. A well-priced attraction, you can either book a one hour tour of the canals, or pick up a hop-on hop-off card to view them on your own time.
8. Vaffelbageren
Take the time to sit outside, and watch the world go by as you munch on an ice-cream or a waffle from this shop in Nyhavn. Super comfortable, indeed!
9. CUB COFFEE
Cub Coffee is without a doubt my absolute favourite coffee spot in Copenhagen. The roasts were so smooth and lovely, the service was fantastic, and the decor and atmosphere left me feeling more comfortable than I’ve been in a long time!
10. Decorfarver
Painting supplies, bamboo toothbrushes, organic hand creams, beautiful and sustainable hair accessories, Decorfarver is a fabulous store I found while strolling in Nørreport that helps you bring Hygge home!
