"Free- a Gluténmentes Pékség" - Best Gluten Free Bakery in Budapest

I have a knack for wandering when I’m on vacation. I like to allow my feet to wander wherever the city seems to will them to go. While in Budapest, my wandering paid off as I ended up finding Free- a Gluténmentes Pékség!

The bold signs on the outside of the bakery proclaiming “Gluten Free” “Lactose Free” “Soy Free” “Egg Free” “Yeast Free” “Dairy Free” “Paleo Products” intrigued me it’s not easy to make delicious products that are safe for the strictest of dietary restrictions and diets.

One thing I must say is that this bakery most definitely exceeded my expectations and each item I tasted was fantastic. I ended up returning multiple times.

I daresay that this bakery, while not only my favourite gluten free bakery in Hungary, has become one of my favourite gluten free bakeries worldwide.

Not every single item in this bakery is dairy-, egg-, soy-, or lactose-free, but everything is gluten free. The bakers were very friendly, and responded to any questions I had about ingredients or allergens.

The bakery’s interior itself is not too grand, but the quality of the food by far makes up for it.

My favourite items were the croissant (on par with croissants I’ve tried in France), and the cheese sticks. Joel, who I was travelling with, and who doesn’t have a gluten sensitivity, couldn’t stop eating the cheese sticks and ordered an entire bag for himself !

Those on the search for a welcoming and homely bakery in Budapest that serves up baked goods free from gluten and other allergens (lactose, soy, egg, etc…) as well as vegetarian or vegan bites should make a trip over to Free- a Gluténmentes Pékség - you’ll thank me after you taste it!
