Bournemouth Beach - Best British Beach along the Jurassic Coast
For those seeking sun & sand in the South of England who have visited Brighton one too many times (not that there is anything wrong with it), Bournemouth should perhaps be considered.
Voted as the UK’s best beach in 2018, this popular coastal resort town that is part of the Jurassic Coast (an area listed a Worst Heritage Site) offers lot’s of natural beauty. The Dorset town has good nightlife, and generally warmer weather than the rest of England.
Both Agatha Christie and Roald Dahl even mention it in some of their works (although Dahl’s description wasn’t the most pleasant… regardless, he gave it a #shoutout).

There are also colourful beach huts which give the coastline some welcome splash of colour. Some stands, shops, and bars lie near the coastline, however, these businesses don’t overcrowd it to the point of being cumbersome. You can still find some areas of undisturbed beach on which to sunbathe or surf. The beach also has white sand, which makes it comfortable on which to run or play with kids.
The beach itself looks beautiful in the sunset.
Bournemouth Beach also hosts an annual air festival, in which planes perform colourful and impressive aerial displays overhead. I had the chance of seeing one of these shows, and it was very nice.
If you are seeking a less touristy beach location in England, Bournemouth is a nice change of pace from Brighton.
