Top 10 Dessert Places in Toronto (With Gluten Free Options!)
Dessert is my favourite meal of the day, and Toronto has no shortage of sweet spots to tempt your sweet tooth. Discover some of my favourites below!
1. Peace Treats
This Toronto-based milkshake shop is located inside Peace Collective stores (known for their ubiquitous “Home is Toronto” t-shirts and sweaters). These milkshakes really are as delicious as they are aesthetically pleasing, and worth a try when you’re in the 6ix (don’t hate me for calling it that…).
Location:
131 Ossington Avenue
2. Sweet Jesus
Sweet Jesus is a real sweet treat! The soft serve company serves up cones or cups dipped in wonderful toppings such as chocolate, fudge, caramel, peanut butter, cotton candy, etc…
In their words, they “#blessyourmouth”, and I have to admit, they really do!
Location:
(Uptown) 4841 Yonge Street
(Uptown) 130 Eglinton Avenue East
(Downtown) 220 Yonge Street H029C
(Downtown) 106 John Street
3. Dutch Dreams
Overstuffed cups of deliciousness await you at Dutch Dreams’, whose ice creams flavours and toppings are just as dreamy as its name.
Chocolate-dipped waffle cones, cotton candy, mounds of whipped cream… they really go above in beyond in this eclectic and whimsical ice cream parlour. Not fancying ice cream? Have no fear, as they also make a mean shake or frozen yogurt delight!
Location:
36 Vaughan Road
4. Bang Bang Ice Cream & Bakery
Bang Bang Ice Cream & Bakery specializes in ice cream sandwiches, and it’s clear when you try any of their offerings that they’ve perfected this item.
Customers are asked to form their ultimate ice cream “sammie” from a variety of housemate cookies (including a gluten free & vegan option) and ice cream flavours (vegan flavours available). You can also choose to order a bubble waffle or choux patisserie instead if you’re not in the mood for a cookie!
If you’re feeling particularly cheeky, you can even take one of their delicious ice cream flavour to-go from a tub. I highly recommend the burnt toffee or London Fog!
Added bonus? It’s only a short walk away from Trinity Bellwoods - the perfect spot from which to enjoy your cold delight!
Location:
93 Ossington Avenue
5. Roselle
A small shop located near the Distillery District, what Roselle doesn’t make up for in size, it makes up for in the amount of flavour in it’s desserts!
Unfortunately, I’ve never had a chance to try their famed “Earl Grey soft serve” as I’ve never had a chance to pop by on the weekend (they don’t serve it during the week), but everything I have tried has been mouth-wateringly delicious and well-presented.
They do offer some gluten free options, such as they “OG” (Original Gooey) treat pictured, and their pre-packaged caramels and nougats.
Location:
362 King Street East
6. Arctic Bites
Arctic Bites makes arctic delights at their shop in Baldwin Village. The Thai-inspired ice cream rolls are fun to watch being made (hello, Instagram story!), and the company provides a lot of different types of toppings.
Location:
21 Baldwin Street
7. Douce France
This French-owned café serves delightful patisseries, viennoiseries, chocolates, macarons, and other sweet delights. My absolute favourite item on their menu is the imported Angelina hot chocolate (from the famous store in Paris, which you can read about if you press this text).
On top of serving fantastic treats to enjoy in the café, Douce France also sells many imported items that you can purchase to enjoy at your own leisure!
Location:
820 Danforth Avenue
(N.B. Unfortunately I didn’t manage to grab any snaps from my visits to the Danforth location - these shots are from the now closed-down North York café)
8. Tsujiri
Japanese tea lovers (green tea, houjicha, matcha, etc…) can rejoice at Tsujiri! Founded in 1860 by Riemon Tsuji, this chain serves treats using all different types of Japanese tea. Floats, lattes, shaved ice… there are many tasty and well-made items from which to choose.
Do be advised that most of the locations don’t have a lot of seating, so do keep in mind you might need to order takeout!
Location:
(Uptown) 4909 Yonge Street
(Downtown) 147 Dundas Street West
(Downtown) 596 Yonge Street
9. LadurÉe Toronto
Ladurée is without a doubt one of my two favourite macaron producers in the city (the other occupying the subsequent spot on this list).
As the Canadian branch of this French chain ships in all of it’s ingredients from Switzerland, it’s no wonder as to the excellence of the taste of their macarons. Although the design of the café itself is reason enough to pop by, it’s icing on the cake (or in this case, the macaron) that their desserts taste so good!
Location:
3401 Dufferin Street (Yorkdale Shopping Centre)
10. Butter Avenue
Butter Avenue is one of my two favourite macaron shops in the city (the other being Ladurée Toronto). The exquisite macarons come in a variety of unique and mouth-watering flavours, and I’ve always found the service to be top-notch!
Stop in for delectable macaron flavours such as White Chocolate Strawberry, Crème Brûlée, Earl Grey, Matcha, Sea Salt Caramel, and many, many more seasonal offerings.
If you’re not in the mood for macarons, they’ve always got some patisseries (éclairs, Pot de Crème, chocolates, etc…) that might tickle your fancy!
They also offer Afternoon Teas on the weekends for $29.50 a person.
Location:
477 Queen Street West
