Top 5 Best Gluten Free BRUNCH in Toronto! (Vegan Options)

Going gluten free doesn’t mean giving up brunch! Satisfy those cravings safely at the following spots, tried and tested (many times) by yours truly. Re-book that brunch with the girlies (or partner, parents, yourself…) with these spots, and at the very least I can guarantee good food (the conversation is on you, sorry)!

If you’re celiac/ gluten free/ gluten sensitive/ wheat free/ gluten curious, and also vegan/ vegetarian/ dairy-free, and want even more Gluten Free restaurants or cafés in Toronto, then check out my original Gluten Free restaurant post, my best Gluten Free Pizza post, my best Gluten Free Pasta post, and my Gluten Free Cakes post!

ALMOND BUTTERFLY

Need a brunch with the gluten free girlies?

Head on over to Almond Butterfly, where achic interior meets TikTok and Instagram friendly (and safe) eats. The entire bistro is gluten free, so you can enjoy reading a menu where everything is available.

Not super hungry? Just grab a bagel or a muffin (celiac approved, of course).

Ahh - the beauty of choice!

insomnia Restaurant and Lounge

Insomnia, true to it’s name, is open late!

As someone who isn’t always awake for a 3:00p.m. brunch on the weekend (who is?!), I really appreciate being able to grab my salmon-and-egg fix later ing the day.

There are vegetarian options, vegan options, and of course, gluten-free options all clearly marked on the menu. This establishment is very keen on tailoring your order to you, so rest assured all of your dietary needs will be taken care of with a smile.

The low-lighting is also appreciated.

VELA

Vela Toronto is my new favourite restaurant in King West area. No contest.

The offspring of a gluten-free and non-gluten free couple, this is a perfect spot for mixed dietary restriction diners. The majority of the menu can be modified for Gluten Free, including all the pastas. They also have dairy-free options, and nut-free options. Vela really is the place for inclusive dining!

Their brunch, offered only on Sundays, is worth booking. Exclusive items like a Salmon Tower, Brown Butter Hollandaise, and even a Korean-inspired eggplant omelette are a treat for the palette.

Bonus? There’s live jazz!

I also need to shoutout their gluten free desserts - they are insanely good. There is choice, and they don’t feel like an afterthought (side-eyeing sorbets and fruit…).

Above all, the opera cake is sublime. It’s better than opera cakes I had before I went gluten free. I even went with a non-gluten free diner, who was blown away. Trust me - it’s a must.

Vela is pricey, bur worth it. Give it a go!

LADY MARMALADE

Lady Marmalade is a reservation-free restaurant, so unfortunately you do need to line up if you want a spot.

However, if you do take the time to queue up, you will be rewarded with a classic brunch menu that caters to multiple diets. The space is also quite airy, light, and perfect for an intimate gathering.

(Note: I once had a very bad experience with a server who served me the wrong dish twice. They did change it after I inquired. This has only happened once, and I believe it was the fault of the server themselves, and not the restaurant, but I like to be transparent with my readers).

Favourite Dish: Eggs Benedict

HUGS AND SARCASM

No /sarcasm here - almost the entire menu at Hugs and Sarcasm can be modified to accommodate gluten free diners!

Few things are better than an all-day brunch spot (and by all-day, I do mean all-day - this spot is open until midnight or 2:00a.m. on Thurs-Sun).

Hugs and Sarcasm has an extensive menu of indulgent comfort foods. With trivia nights, and a British tuck shop inside, you’ll be coming back for the food and staying for the fun!

There is even a dedicated gluten free fryer to ensure even celiac diners feel safe and satisfied. Woo!

sister’s & co

This is the newest Brunch spot on the list. Unfortunately there is only ONE gluten-free option (a chia seed pudding), but I am hopeful there will be more in future!

Location:
887 Dundas St W

lox & schmear

The BEST smoked salmon shop in Toronto.

No contest.

On top of gluten free bagels, there is also dairy-free cream cheese available. My only complaint: the hours make it difficult for me to go (despite craving one every day). Oh well, distance has made my heart grow fonder!

Location:
1030 St Clair Ave W

pigeon

Not explicitly gluten free, but I’ve been multiple times and have had the waiters/chefs bend over backwards to ensure I could eat safely!

Location:
37 King St W
