I had the delight of sampling some coffee from different parts of Europe over the past year. Here is my roundup for the coffee roasters you need on your radar in 2023!
Let me know in the comments if there are other roasters worldwide you think should be added to this list!
For more coffee bean suggestions, check out some of the posts below:
rocket bean roastery (latvia)
Location: Riga, Latvia
Café: Rocket Bean - Dzirnavu iela 39, Centra rajons, LV-1010, Rīga, Latvia
During a rather voracious snowstorm in Riga, I tucked into Rocket Bean for shelter (and a warm drink. Can you guess the drink…? Coffee. It was coffee).
I am overjoyed I discovered this Latvian roaster, as their brews and beans are nothing short of fantastic. Well crafted coffee, and baristas who are knowledgable in regards to guiding you towards the best batch for your tastebuds is a win in my eyes!
coffee collective (denmark)
Location: Copenhagen, Denmark
Café: Jægersborggade 57, 2200 København, Denmark
Denmark is world-class for coffee shops, so one of their roasters had to make the list.
While it was hard to narrow down, Coffee Collective reigns supreme for me in 2023. They know coffee, and you’d be lucky to get to know them.

DROP COFFEE ROASTERS (SWEDEN)
Location: Stockholm, Sweden
Café: Wollmar Yxkullsgatan 10, 118 50 Stockholm, Sweden
The Swedish Drop Coffee doesn’t play around with they coffee beans. They are an award-winning roastery, and it’s evident as to why.
They’ve got choices. They take it seriously. You want something sweet? They have that. More bitter? They have that, too. I was impressed with the amount of knowledge the staff had about their coffee when I went to purchase a few bags.
Even their sit-down drinks are well-brewed. The cappuccino I had was robust, and I’ve always been a fan of their filter coffee. You’ll definitely enjoy the taste of the beans themselves - with or without any milk or sugar!
STOW COFFEE ROASTERS (SLOVENIA)
Location: Ljubljana, Slovenia
Café: Gosposka ulica 15, 1000 Ljubljana, Slovenia
I discovered Stow this past summer when I visited the Ljubljana City Museum - and wow. I was not expecting such high-quality coffee while museum-hopping,
Genuinely some of the best beans around, full stop. I picked up three bags before I left, and returned fir multiple pour-overs. The baristas were also very knowledgeable and enthusiastic.
Must-try!

Named Quahwa - the Arab word for coffee - this café serves up Arabica beans they source and roast themselves,
Their motto? "'for coffee lovers only”. Is that you? Then try some.

vagabond COFFEE roasters (UNITED KINGDOM)
Location: London, UK
Café: 105 Holloway Road, London N7
Vagabond was a heavily frequented coffee shop when I lived in Islington.
This industrial-styled coffee shop is cool, and transparently roasts coffee beans in the back seating area. Vagabond use their roasted products in their caffeinated creations, so you can try before you buy.
Bonus - they offer great nibbles in-house (and they’ve always had a gluten free and a vegan option).
Overall, I’m a fan!
BOCCA Coffee (AMSTERDAM)
Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands
Café: Kerkstraat 96H, 1017 GP Amsterdam, Netherlands
Bocca is a lovely branch of coffee shops across Amsterdam that source and roast their own beans. The company aims to be transparent in their sourcing of the beans, and claims to pay it’s workers 56% above the Fair-Trade price. In their own words, they “manage the entire bean-to-cup process”.
Bocca has coffee beans, a café, and a barista “school of coffee” Training Center. They know what they’re doing, and each bean in their bag proves that.
Casino mocca kávépörkölő (HUNGARY)
Location: Budapest, Hungary
Café: Budapest, Hunyadi János út 3-G épület, 1117 Hungary
Forget Hungary, I’m thirsty! Luckily, the Hungarian capital has Casino Mocca to provide excellent, precision-roasted beans.
In their words, their products are “CARRYING FLAVOUR PROFILES EMBLEMATIC OF THEIR LOCAL ORIGINS.” Why not take them at their word and try them? I did, and I’m convinced.
They ship worldwide if you can’t grab a weekend ticket to Hungary (don’t worry - I’m in the same boat… or plane.)
MAN VERSUS MACHINE Coffee roasters (GERMANY)
Location: Munich, Germany
Café: Müllerstraße 23, 80469 München, Germany
This Germanic café efficiently makes phenomenal caffeine-based beverages. It was my staple when visiting Munoch.
Their coffee beans are also great, especially on filter. They’re robust, and the design is just super cool. Be a well-oiled machine, and give it a go!
origo (romania)
Location: Bucharest, Romania
Location: Strada Lipscani 9, București 050971, Romania
Bucharest has an arresting café - Origo.
This café revolves around the art of coffee-making, and part of that art includes good beans.
I have tried many Origo coffee beans at home, and have always been satisfied. For a surefire hit, give this Romanian Roaster a go!
