7 Gems of... The 3ème Arrondissement in Paris
Aside from some of it’s unique museums, the 3rd arrondissement in Paris - AKA the Haut-Marais - is one of my favourite places to pop by for trendy cafés and restaurants. Here are 7 things I don’t think you should miss when you’re in the area.
1. BigLove
One of my favourite outposts of the Big Mamma restaurant group in Paris is BigLove.
I have absolutely no idea how their crust is both
a) gluten-free
b) the best crust I’ve ever eaten (even in comparison to gluten-filled crusts I’ve had in the past)
I could go on and on about the quality of their pizza, but it really is something that you need to experience to understand. Fluffy crust, high-quality ingredients, lots of truffles (if you want), and a trendy yet homely interior. What’s not to (big) Love?
Location:
30 Rue Debelleyme
2. Breizh Café
The most well-known crêperie on Rive Droite is most likely Breizh Café. This is unsurprising considering their innovative menu, convenient location, inviting seating, and friendly staff.
It is also worth noting that most of their menu is gluten-free as their crepes are all made with buckwheat flour - woohoo!
Pop in for a hearty & savoury crêpe with cheese, vegetables, eggs, or meats. If you follow that with a sweet delight topped with caramel and ice cream, I’d venture to say you would have had yourself a great day!
Location:
109 Rue Vieille du Temple
3. Musée National Picasso
The eclectic and eccentric Spanish artist has a permanent mark on Paris by having is very own museum in the 3rd district. While not the biggest nor the most famous collection of his art, this museum is an interesting retrospective of some of his lesser known pieces. The architecture of the museum itself is quite note-worthy, and the smaller-scale collection is a welcome change to the seemingly never-ending works of art housed in the more famous Louvre and D’Orsay museums.
Any fan of the painter should definitely pay it a visit.
(I went to the Musée National Picasso on a cold March day when my phone had died, so please excuse the lack of photos.)
Location:
5 Rue de Thorigny
4. Strada Café
Strada Café was one of my friend’s favourite cafés in Paris, and it scores pretty high on my list, too!
Friendly service coupled with good coffee and a few delicious cakes (with gluten free and vegetarian options!) make this a nice place to check out for your caffeine fix in the 3rd district.

5. Le Barbouille
In a city where many things close early, Le Barbouille makes for a welcome late-night restaurant in which to have a chat with friends on the patio over some wine and cheese.
If hunger strikes late at night while you’re in the 3rd district, pop by for a pleasant meal.
Location:
13 Rue de Bretagne
6. Anticafé Beaubourg
When I was a student in Paris, I often flocked to cafés on those difficult days where any motivation to study was difficult to find. “Anticafés” such as Anticafé Beaubourg were lifesavers as their quiet areas/ multiple outlets/ pay-by-the-hour scheme caters directly to students.
For €5.00 an hour or €24.00 for an entire day, this café would give you access to an unlimited amount of drinks (teas, coffees, juices, etc…) and light snacks (muffins, biscuits, etc…) during the duration of your stay.
If you’re in Paris looking to get some work done, this café might just be the work ticket you need!
Location:
79 Rue Quincampoix
7. Waza Sushi
Sushi in Paris can be quite expensive, but Waza Sushi presents a more affordable way to get your fix.
Although the quality doesn’t exactly scream “from the Tsukiji fish market”, the reasonably priced set menu options make it a good choice as a budget-friendly and healthy restaurant meal.

Paris-3E-Arrondissement, 9 Rue de Bretagne
