Top 10 Thai Restaurants in Toronto (Vegan and Gluten Free Options)

Thai Food and Thai Restaurants are very popular in Toronto. With so much choice, it can be overwhelming to decide where to eat - until now!

I have done my due diligence and eaten at many, many, many Thai restaurants to compile this comprehensive list (to the point that one friend on Instagram DM’d me: “another Thai place???”)

Well, yes. There was another Thai place, then another Thai place. And now, I am offering you the fruits of that labour! Enjoy!

All the places mentioned are gluten-free friendly. None are celiac-friendly, unless otherwise stated!

pai northern thai kitchen

Gluten Free Menu + Vegan Options

A Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant of a mostly flourless cuisine with extensive gluten free options? Yes, please!

Popular Chef Nut is at the helm of this Toronto restaurant with a midtown and downtown location. Fresh and authentic Thai food is served alongside refreshing drinks.

The interior is eclectic and bright, conjuring up images of a colourful Thai street. All diners in your party will love it, and will leave feeling satisfied.

Do note - book reservations early! This place regularly has over an hour wait for walk-ins on weekends and evenings.

Favourite Dish: Thai Green Curry (in a coconut)

18 Duncan St (Pai Downtown)
2335 Yonge St (Pai Uptown)

khao san road

Gluten Free Menu + Vegan Options

Khao San Road is a restaurant that is just as popular with the gluten sensitive crowd, as it is with the gluten insensitive crowd (I’m going to call them that for now).

Fresh and spicy Thai dishes bursting with flavour take centre-stage at this chic eatery. Do be aware that it is difficult to grab a seat on weekends!

In regards to cross-contamination and celiac safety, Khao San Road does offer a completely separate gluten-free menu but it does cost more to order your dishes gluten-free. They take great care in minimizing cross-contamination, and I personally have never had a reaction. However, the restaurant is not 100% wheat-free, so do keep that in mind and communicate your specific needs with your server.

Favourite Dish: “Gluten Free Green Curry” and “Gluten Free Vegan Fresh Rolls”. Yum!

11 Charlotte Street

chiang mai

Chiang Mai is a local small chain of Thai restaurants in Toronto that all deliver equally high-quality food in trendy settings. They take great care in presentation, which makes it great for social outings or date night!

Their portions are generous, and they will make it spicy if you ask! I also enjoyed that there was live musicians the day that I most recently visited.

Their menu clearly marks common allergens, so it’s easy to order based on your specific dietary requirements.

kiin

Kiin is a Michelin Guide high-class Thai dining experience in Downtown Toronto. Helmed by Jeff Regular and Chef Nuit (who is also responsible for Pai), this refined restaurant has a rotating menu that is inspired by Royal Thai culinary standards.

You can order a 12 or 7 course Tasting Menu, or a 12 or 7 course Vegan Tasting Menu. There are also options for Gluten Free menus if required.

In their words: “Our team is dedicated in sourcing the freshest and finest ingredients that are seasonally available, whether they are unique and premium ingredients specially flown in from Thailand or working directly with local farmers to showcase the best of what Canada has to offer.”

If you crave a special culinary outing featuring unique Thai flavour combinations, and don’t mind spending a premium, then Kiin is the place to go!

326 Adelaide St W

Sala Modern Thai Kitchen

Sala is a modern Thai restaurant on the Danforth that delivers hearty portions full of flavour.

Their menu switches it up from some other Thai restaurants in the city, re-inventing traditional dishes like Pad Thai with lobster or an egg-wrap, and Panang Curry with salmon steaks.

For a modern twist on traditional cuisine, this is a nice place to check out.

1262 Danforth Ave

mengrai thai

Gluten Free Menu + Vegan Options

Specializing in Northern Thai dishes, Mengrai Thai serves up fresh and flavourful fare in a cozy brick-lined restaurant.

Their menu is extensive, and all of their allergens are clearly listed.

Something I like about Mengrai is that they offer a variety of dishes that are different than ones I’ve seen at other Thai restaurants in the city. A notable addition - The Red Chicken Curry with Lychee! Definitely not for everyone, but it’s lovely to try at least once!

(Fun Fact: It was featured on NBC’s Extra: Millionaire & Mansions).

Favourite Dish: Thai Red Chicken Curry with Lychee

18 Elm St

bangkok garden

Gluten Free Menu

If you like your meals alongside a breathtaking interior, Bangkok Garden has a gorgeous (albeit kitschy) space inspired by Thailand. There is even a mini river inside!

Rather than the usual “Thailand street” aesthetic, Bangkok Garden takes design inspiration from more Royal Thai designs. The food is also delicious, and they offer all of your usual fare (phad thai, curries, phad see eew). Their allergens are also clearly listed, which is very much appreciated!

Location:
18 Elm St

pii nong thai

Gluten Free Menu + Vegetarian Options

Pii Nong Thai is a great midtown Thai restaurant, with a very intimate atmosphere.

The service has always been very friendly, and I am a big fan of their Thai Red Curry. In regards to food safety, all of their allergens and allergy swaps are clearly listed on their menu. Makes ordering a breeze!

Favourite Dish: Thai Red Curry

Location:
1677 Bayview Ave

favorites thai bbq

Another Thai Restaurant on the Michelin Bib Gourmand list? Yes it is!

Favorites Thai is a restaurant that has evolving Tasting Menus. Rather than your stereotypical phad thais and curries, Favorites features unique dishes like Thai Beef Tartare, and Calamari and Coconut Rice.

If you want a unique spin on Thai cuisine, and love the unpredictability of Tasting Menu, then give them a go!

Location:
141 Ossington Ave

sukho thai

If you want a casual, local Thai chain, than Sukho Thai should be your go-to.

Another iteration by Chef Nuit (who runs Pai and Kiin), Sukho is their most ‘basic’ version. While the cuisine here isn’t as stellar those other restaurants, it is a bit more price-conscious.

In general, the food is always consistent, flavourful, and heartily portioned. If you want a safe bet for a Thai restaurant, than Sukho should be on your radar.
